Integral Product Conformity Assessment

Drones Product Safety Plan shapes the commercialization of different type of drone products. For this reason, it has been a priority for regulators from the beginning in the European Union (E.U). Several directives and recommendations were developed to ensure an appropriate circulation of products inside the E.U. market.

As drones are also considered a european market product, several regulatory proposals are being developed by different entities and organizations. For example, EASA’s NPA-(A), released in July 2017, proposes the mandatory declaration of conformity and CE marking for RPAS under the “open” category.

Alter Technology, as a quality driven provider of engineering and test services within the drones’ market, has created comprehensive services in this concern to guarantee your system and equipment reliability according to this new regulatory framework for drones.

An integral product conformity assessment is the main concept considered for the achievement of our system reliability.

In this concern, Alter Technology develops and implements a customized test plan for your drone. Our RPAS and laboratory experts will help you select and carry out the necessary tests for your devices.

The final goal of this process is the achievement of the respective declaration of conformity and the CE marking. The process allows a free-safe commercialization of your drone product inside the european market. This is the best way to ensure the concept of product safety.

According to the last normative modifications in the E.U, product conformity turns into an essential concept for the drone sector.

EASA’s regulatory proposal for the open category (low risk – small UAS) provides some specific rules for placing these vehicles in the market through a product conformity process where is included the CE marking, starting later this year.

In this concern Alter Technology proposes the following dedicated services:

Product Conformity Assessment

Our first scope is to identify the applicable directives,  for wxample:

Establish a regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the free market.

Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU.

Guarantees that electrical and electronic equipment does not generate, or is not affected by, electromagnetic disturbance.

Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) 2014/30/EU

. Assurances a high level of protection for EU workers and citizens. As it is a ‘New Approach’ Directive, it promotes harmonization through a combination of mandatory health and safety requirements, and voluntary harmonized standards.

Machinery Directive (MD) 2006/42/EC

. Ensures that electrical equipment within certain voltage limits provides a high level of protection.

Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU

Product Testing

  • Safety testing
  • Cybersecurity testing
  • EMC testing
  • Radio testing
  • Environmental testing:
    • Mechanical: Vibration & shock, Impact
    • Climatic: temperature & humidity (dry heat, damp heat, thermal shock)
    • Salt mist test
    • Water and dust tightness test

Alter Technology is ISO 17025 accredited laboratory for EMC, electrical, climatic and vibration testing (scopes ENAC 345/LE808).

Declaration of Conformity & CE Marking

We provide support in the process to achieve a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). This include all the relevant information to:

  1. Identify the product
  2. Legislation according which it is issued
  3. Manufacturer (or authorised representative)
  4. Notified body and a reference to harmonised standards
  5. Other normative documents where appropriate.

The affixed of the CE marking represents this conformity.
